Apple iPhone 8 Reveal – The Small “Budget” Upgrade Over Previous Generation

Apple iPhone 8 Reveal

While the main star of the Apple iPhone keynote event was iPhone X, the company did also unveil two new smartphones, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which are more of an incremental update over the current iPhone 7 Plus instead of the major overhaul like iPhone X. However, despite that, the new devices do offer some decent upgrades for the budget conscious iPhone fans. If you were unable to watch the Apple iPhone keynote event and Apple iPhone 8 reveal, check out the breakdown below.

Apple iPhone 8 Reveal Breakdown

Since the Apple iPhone X costs a massive $1000 for the 64GB model, Apple had to offer something for the crowd who was interested in “budget” tier devices and that is where the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus come in with their improved performance but considerably lower price compared to the flagship device.

On the paper, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus seem quite similar to each other as well as the bigger and more expensive iPhone X. All three devices use the new A11 Bionic processor instead of the old A10 Fusion, ensuring that the performance gain of these new devices is at least 25% higher than that of iPhone 7 Plus. Even in terms of storage, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are quite similar to iPhone X as all three devices offer 64GB and 256GB storage options only, completely skipping out on the usual 128GB one.

However, there are also some notable differences between iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus as well. After all, Apple had to make sure that people actually had a reason to choose one device over the other. The “smaller” iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with a resolution of 1334 x 750 while the larger and more expensive iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080.

Both the Apple smartphones feature a 12MP camera, however the iPhone 8 Plus has a dual-lens camera with one lens operating at an aperture of f1.8 while the other is at f2.8. The cameras in both smartphones have been calibrated to make full use of Apple’s ARKit Augmented Reality capabilities and can even record 4K 60 FPS videos.

The general design of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus remains the same as of its predecessor with the addition of a glass front and back which provides better elemental protection against dust, scratches and water. The glass back also enabled Apple to add wireless charging to iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. Both smartphones will be available in Silver, Space Gray and Gold colors.

According to the Apple iPhone 8 reveal, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will ship with the latest iOS 11 firmware which brings a lot of new features like Animojis, improved Siri and Apple Pay among others.

So there you have it, the Apple iPhone 8 Reveal breakdown for those who missed the livestream. If you don’t have the budget for an iPhone X but would still like to change from your old Apple device, the smaller iPhone 8 starts from $700 while the bigger iPhone 8 Plus costs $800 for the 64GB model. Pre orders for both devices will begin on 15th September and will be available to purchase on 22nd September.
