After a recent SteamVR beta update, a lot of users have reported that they are receiving an error ‘failed to terminate vrserver.exe’ while trying to launch SteamVR. This error does not allow you to start SteamVR and use your HTC Vive for VR Experience. That is why people have been annoyed so much by this vrserver.exe issue.
Solving Failed to Terminate vrserver.exe Error
There are few possible things that you can try to fix this error. We have summed up those fixes here in this article.
Fix 1 – Update your SteamVR to latest version
According to Valve and Steam, they have solved this issue in the latest SteamVR Beta Update (1465949389). You can update your SteamVR from the Steam app installed on your system.
Fix 2 – Kill the vrserver.exe process from Task Manager
- Open Task Manager by right clicking on Start bar and select Task Manager.
- Under Processes, look for VR Server (32 bit) or VR Server (64 bit) process just like the one shown in the image below.
- Right click on this process and select End task.
- Start SteamVR.
You have to repeat this process every time you restart your PC.
