Top 10 Upcoming Video Games to Play in 2016

2016 has been a great year for gaming so far with many of the fan-favorite titles being released this year. Many video game franchises are receiving the sequel treatment or even a reboot this year as well.

A lot of beloved games are making a return ranging from Hitman to Mass Effect. The long-awaited Ubisoft shooter, The Division, finally came out in early March, three years from when it was first announced back at E3 2013. Both Sony and Microsoft have an entire line-up of exclusives scheduled to release this year. Even Nintendo has a few tricks up its sleeve. 2016 has a whole lot to offer to the gaming world. Here is a list of the top 10 upcoming video games which are yet to release in 2016.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Deus Ex- Mankind Divided

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is a direct sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution (2011). Set two years after the events of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Mankind Divided sees the protagonist, Adam Jensen return with new and improved weapons and body augmentations. The game is initially a first-person shooter with third-person cover-based mechanics added to the mix, just like the predecessor.

The publisher, Square Enix had started a controversial pre-order system based on tiers which determined the pre-order bonuses and even the release date of the game depending on the number of pre-orders. The tier system was canceled by Square Enix after receiving a negative response from the fans. This cyberpunk themed RPG has been on the list of most anticipated games for quite a while

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Platform: PS4

Horizon- Zero Dawn

Horizon: Zero Dawn is an upcoming PS4 exclusive action role-playing game. The game is set in a distant post-apocalyptic future ruled by robotic creatures. Players take control of Aloy, a young hunter and expert in archery.

The game was first announced during Sony’s press conference at E3 2015. We were introduced to the heroine of the game in a memorable gameplay demo as she defeats a mechanized dinosaur. It is the first new IP to be developed by Guerilla Games since 2004. Everyone has high hopes from the developers of the Killzone series.


Platform: Xbox One, PS4, PC

Release Date: 13th May 2016


Doom is the reboot of the classic Doom franchise. It is the first major installment in the Doom series in more than a decade. A lot of emphases has been placed on player movement. Mechanics like double jump and sprint were added to maintain the fast-paced action of the game. Classic weapons including BFG 9000 and demons will be returning as well.

A 15-minute gameplay demo was shown at the publisher, Bethesda’s first E3 press conference last year. The developer, an id Software, states that’s there will be a 13-hour single player campaign. Multiplayer modes like 4 player deathmatch, freeze tag, clan arena and domination will be included as well. We can’t wait to get our hands on the gory new reboot of the series.

Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst

Mirror’s Edge- Catalyst

It’s been 8 years since we first played as Faith in the 2008 hit, Mirror’s Edge. Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is the origin story of Faith Connors that serves as a prequel to original Mirror’s Edge. Parkour elements of the first game return as players navigate around the city of Glass.

EA surprised everyone at E3 2013 with a teaser trailer for Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst. In the trailer, we see a young Faith getting her iconic tattoo beneath her right eye.

As opposed to the linear gameplay of the original game, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst will have an open-world to let players roam around the new city called Glass. The combat system has also received a major overhaul.

The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda is an open-world action adventure game. It will be the 19th main installment in the Legend of Zelda series. The first gameplay footage was revealed during Nintendo’s digital event at E3 2014.

The game involves cel-shaded graphics and gives players more freedom to choose from several ways of entering and exiting dungeons. Players can explore around, what seems to be the biggest open-world in the series so far, by riding Link’s horse, Epona.

It was originally meant to be released in 2015 however, it was delayed and during an interview with Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, he stated that the game will launch in 2016. The game is still under development. Many Nintendo fans are desperately waiting for further details of the game.

Final Fantasy XV

Platform: Xbox One, PS4, PC

Final Fantasy XV

After going through name changes, plot changes and even the game directors, Final Fantasy XV will finally be launching this year. Being in development for 10 years, the game now has an all-male cast of characters.

The main hero, Noctis Lucis Caelum, sets on a journey with his companions to defeat the forces of Niflheim after gaining magical powers.

We hope the road trip will be worth the wait when we finally get to play the game this year.

No Man’s Sky

Platform: PS4, PC

Release Date: 21st June 2016

No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky serves a surprise indie treat for our gaming taste buds. From the indie developer, Hello Games, it’s a first-person action adventure game with procedurally generated planets. Each planet, having its own distinct flora and fauna, will be different from the other ones. And how many planets are we talking here? 18 quintillion (18000000000000000000) planets.

Players are free to explore the vast world and land on any planet. After discovering a new planet, the first person to reach it can even name it and the inhabitants of it. Imagine the joy of naming a planet and other people visiting it every second. No Man’s Sky is looking to be a pure summer joy ride for the gamers this year.

Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3 is the newest in Souls series. Prepare to die, again and again, in attempts to conquer the most fearsome demons. The game has already released in Japan back in March but is yet to release around the globe.

The classic swords and sorcery gameplay returns as players step into the world of Dark Souls 3 which has now borrowed a lot from the developer, From Software’s last game, Bloodborne.

Quantum Break

Quantum Break

Quantum Break is the developer, Remedy’s triumphant return to the gaming world with an ambitious new game. From the creators of Alan Wake and Max Payne, Quantum Break is a unique blend of video game and a live-action TV show.

Quantum Break revolves around our time-manipulating protagonist, Jack Joyce, as he tries to fix a time travel experiment that went horribly wrong.

The game was first revealed to be a Xbox One exclusive back in 2013. Since then, the game has received an entirely new cast of characters and it was recently announced that it will be releasing on Windows 10 as well. An incredibly talented cast includes Shawn Ashmore (X-men movies), Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), Dominic Monaghan (Lord of the Rings, Lost) and much more.

The game is just around the corner and we can’t wait for any further to manipulate time as Jack Joyce.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4- A Thief’s End

It’s no surprise that the most anticipated game of 2016 is none other than the fourth and probably the last installment of the Uncharted series. After several months of delays, we will finally be to fill the boots of our favorite adventurer, Nathan Drake, this May (hopefully).

The game introduces new characters like Nadine Ross as well as brings back old ones including Elena. The story begins with Nate’s long lost brother Sam’s return, asking him for one last globe-trotting adventure.

Uncharted series have always included massive set-pieces and action sequences. From the gameplays we’ve seen so far, we can safely say that this one won’t be short on it either. Ranging from car chases to fist-fights, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End would be the year’s most action-packed game.
