Ever wondered how RPG games would look in Virtual Reality (VR)? Well, Indimo Labs LLC has come up with a RPG game called Vanishing Realms: Rite of Steel. It’s basically an Elder Scrolls type game in VR where the gamers can have an adventurous time.
Vanishing Realms: Rite of Steel Review
Vanishing Realms: Rite of Steel is an immersive RPG that is exclusive to HTC Vive VR play. The game utilizes motion controls and free movement with the goal that you are completely in control of battle. The players can swing, block and duck, without even hitting a button but in fact physically move to play out these activities as though you are actually present there.
It’s a classic fantasy RPG and the story revolves around fighting the Undead King, collecting gold and clearing the sacred temple.
Vanishing Realms: Rite of Steel VR Experience
With much await and desperately trying to play the game, I put on my Vive headset with a pair of headphones and the system’s comfortable touch controllers and soon I was transported in to a classic dungeon. I explored cautiously every corner and found old crooked and heavy wooden doors, watery graves, mysterious scrolls and treasures hidden in dark corners awaiting to be discovered.
Range of Motion
It’s very hard to move freely in the dungeon considering the space available in the room but players can use the common VR mechanic by teleportation or blinking to various locations by pointing to it and clicking the thumb pad.
The vision is clear and not obscured by the UI. The lower area of vision showed icons relating to health, mana, sword sheath, and a backpack icon. To access the backpack I had to plunge my hand into my backpack and pull out items that will revive health like apples or torch to light up the dense darkness all this through Vive touch controller.
When taking out an apple from the backpack, players will feel the intense sensation of being actually doing it. The link between the game and the player is superb in the VR and gives the simplest of an action true weight.
Battle with the Skeleton
After exploring for a while, I finally stumble down to my first battle with skeleton enemy. The skeleton gazed towards me with blistering red eyes and I could feel a shiver running down my spine while preparing myself for an attack but before I could move the skeleton opened its assault on me hitting me straight on my shoulder. I dodged its second attack hitting myself on cupboard physically and hit him in the chest through my sword. After two more attacks the skeleton fell, bursting in to green flames and dropping gold coins to collect.
I played for more than two hours after finally realizing that I had other work to do. The intense gameplay of Vanishing Realms drew me inside the dungeon and made me forgot I was moving like a monkey inside my very own room.
